One week to change your life.
Alternative Spring Break is a 100% student-run, non-profit volunteer organization of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the University YMCA. ASB sends U of I students on nationwide service trips four times throughout the year. During their fall, winter, spring, and summer breaks, ASB participants travel throughout the country to learn about and actively combat social justice and environmental issues. Trips concern issues such as homelessness, poverty, animals, healthcare, environment, and many more.
Each trip offers approximately 12 participants and 2 trip facilitators a unique, hands-on opportunity to make a difference in the lives of both communities and individuals nation-wide. In preparation for each trip, participants meet weekly to reflect on issues, promote awareness, volunteer within the Urbana-Champaign community, and to simply get to know one another prior to their week together.
Founded in 1989, Alternative Spring Break's mission is to educate students about social, political, and environmental issues through direct service, group reflections, student leadership, diversity, and engagement beyond the local community. Participants will develop empathy and be motivated to action with the local community.
We invite all students to participate in ASB. The experience is sure to be a memorable and rewarding way to spend your UIUC break.
